Alongside our brothers and sisters in The National Education Union (NEU) we condemn the murder of French teacher, Samuel Paty on Friday 16 October. We send our solidarity to the French education unions and students. We send our condolences to his friends, family, and colleagues.
As the NEU rightly says:
"Teaching children and young people about our human rights and inspiring students to play a positive role in society is part of the vital work that teachers across the world carry out diligently every day."
Patrick Harrington, general secretary of Solidarity, commented: "As a union, we stand against all forms of intolerance and for open discussion in our society. The murder of Samuel Paty is a crime against us all as the aim was to intimidate those who uphold freedom of expression. It gladdened my heart to see righteous Muslims (pictured) joining the demonstrations against this."
