Fujitsu, the giant technoloy firm, have announced that they are making 1,200 British workers redundant. The cuts will affect workers in London, Stevenage and Manchester. The company employs 12,500 workers to run information systems for HM Customs and the Ministry of Defence. The proposed redundancies amount to 10% of its UK workforce. Fujitsu have laready instituted a company wide pay freeze and a reduction in the number of contractors and temporary workers. fujitsu was criticised back in February for its brutal treatment of agency workers in Liverpool.
Fujitsu made £200m profit last year. It paid two directors £1.59m in compensation for loss of office.
